The SE Shooting/Killing who is to blame - how to stop this behavior

We all heard about the incident, everyone is concerned, mad, frustrated, disappointed and even embarrassed. What can we do, what should we do. Hear from friends of the young people involved in the shooting, and other young people that live in the neighborhood and have been able to stay away from crime and violence. We will try to get as many local leaders and community activists to share their solutions. The Ray Bell Show was amazing!!

I've been overwhelmed with emails and calls after yesterday's radio show. Black men and women going to jail in record numbers is something that impacts just about all of us. Really appreciate the continued support for the program. Dalion Alston has offered to have us host the show live at Plaza 23 and have it on Ustream.TV.

Bad Weather Tuesday

Unfortunately we have a storm heading to DC, therefore the HOPE Project training for today is cancelled. Students have been working on Microsoft Outlook 2007, so far they have learned, managing messages, managing task, managing contacts and several sharepoint features that work with MS Outlook 2007. The 2010 HOPE Project graduation ceremony is scheduled for May 27.

Facebook | Raymond Bell

Facebook | Raymond Bell: "Just posted a list of some of the brothers I grew up with that were killed on the streets of DC, on the wall of the radio show event. Growing up as a young person in the late 80's and early 90's during the crack epidemic was no joke! Anyone remember the show 'City Under Siege."

Sometimes we simply have to get out of our own way

So many of our community issues are simply a result of the wrong people trying to do the right thing. As I attend community events, ANC meetings, forums on youth violence and many others, it has become very clear to me that WE are the problem. Far to many of us are in positions of power or positions that directly impact the lives of the community, yet the individuals are very consistent in not producing results. SO PLEASE JUST GET OUT OF THE WAY AND ALLOW EXPERTS TAKE OVER AND PRODUCE THE RESULTS WE ALL WANTS.

The Ray Bell Show

I'm excited about starting a blog talk radio show this year. My first show will air this Saturday @ 11:00am. The topic will be... "is job training the answer to unemployment." I have 2 guests book so far for the first show. Leo Alexander, a candidate for mayor in DC and 2 staff members of the HOPE Project.

I'm interested in getting Leo's opinion on the recent allocation of 3.9 million dollars to local non-profits to train young adults. In addtion I curious to know what his plans are for improving employment opportunities for young people in DC.

The HOPE staff which I'm a part of will discuss their unqiue program for young people ages 18-25. The program is well into it's initial pilot and we will discuss the first couple of months the successes and failures.
